RIHANNA'S AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS EVOLUTION


Tomorrow brings with it the 2013 American Music Awards and while it will be a jam packed event, the night will be celebrating the body of work of a Pop megastar who has crossed many boundaries with her music and style alike. The American Music Awards committee will honor the 25 year-old Robyn Rihanna Fenty with their very first Icon Award. A 7-time American Music Award recipient, the singer has amassed a total of 16 nominations with four pending for Sunday's festivities.

So in celebration of such a distinguished Romane Bougie is looking back at past red carpet moment with the singer as well as past performances.


2007

2007 was the year when the world was getting to know who Rihanna really was, with 3 #1 singles (S.O.S, Umbrella, Hate That I Love You) behind her, the singer was nominated for Favorite Female Soul/R&B which she eventually won. Take a look at her performance with R&B crooner Ne-Yo that year. 


2008

By the time 2008 arrive Rihanna was a bonafide superstar, with 6 #1 singles to her name she was a force to be reckoned with, working with the likes of Justin Timberlake, the singer showed up on the AMA stage dominatrix style belting out her hit 'Rehab'. She was also nominated for two AMAs for Favorite Pop/Rock Female and Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist which she took home. Take a look.


2009

After her infamous assault before the 2009 Grammys, the singer bounced back to winning ways that year, she was the most photographed female that year, she became a style icon and found her 'star' rising more than ever. Coming back with one of her best albums (Rated R) the singer found her strength in 'Hard' and 'Wait Your Turn' that year. 


2010

Rihanna got her first AMA honor back in 2010 when the producers asked her to open the show. That in itself was a huge honor, so she knew she had to go all out. She performed a medley of her LOUD hits including (What's My Name?, Only Girl and Love The Way You Lie Pt. 2) the first two being #1 that year. She was also nominated for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist which she took home. 


In 2011 the singer was nominated for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album 'Loud' and Favorite Soul/R&B Album 'Loud' walking away with the latter.

The following year she was up Favorite Pop/Rock Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Artist, Artist of The Year and Favorite R&B Album 'Talk That Talk'. She walked away with the latter.

This year she is up for  Favorite Soul/R&B Album 'Unapologetic', Favorite Soul/R&B Artist, Artist of The Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist plus this year's recipient of the Icon Award

The 41st American Music Award will be live from the Nokia Theater on November 24.
