BOW DOWN: RIHANNA TO RECEIVE FIRST EVER 'ICON AWARD' AT AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

Love her or loathe her Rihanna's influence on Pop culture is immeasurable. With a career spanning almost 9 years and catalog of hits and an enviable discography, Larry Klein, the producer of American Music Awards is set to honor the singer with their very first Icon Award.

More details after the jump...

According to the LA Times, Klein sees Rihanna as one of the most influential artist of this generation, he shared:
“The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level. Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time.”

A testament to the body of work she possess, it was about time Rihanna get the recognition she truly deserves, and it was sooner or later. After all, boasting 17 Grammys doesn't make you the biggest act in this modern day era. Shade as you may Rihanna has gone on another level. Seven albums in seven years is just mind blowing for any artist. And now people will have to deal with it when she steps on that stage to collect that award come November 24th.

Rihanna now joins Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson as being Icons by merit.

More power to Rih!
